August Garden Maintenance
During the month of August, regular garden maintenance is focused around keeping gardens healthy during the heat, preparing for late summer and getting ahead of Autumn.
We can help you with regular fortnightly, or 4 weekly summer visits, Hedge cutting, Patio and Driveway cleaning, and Planting and border improvements.
August is also a great month to be planning those Autumn projects. Whether it’s a lawn renovation, tree planting, planning your spring flowering bulbs or a major hedge reduction, which are all best to be carried out later in the year, we can provide a no obligation quote.
August is a busy month at Newmarket Garden Maintenance
Domestic Gardens – August Jobs
Regular Garden Maintenance tasks this month focus on:
» Seasonal tasks such as planting autumn-flowering bulbs (where suitable) and preparing areas for Autumn planting.
» Planning garden redesigns and renovations including layout changes, new planting or a basic garden refresh.
» Watering containers and other priority plants during prolonged dry weather. When watering aim for a deep soak rather than frequent light watering
» Pruning and trimming hedges (avoid active bird nests), and summer-flowering shrubs after they have finished flowering. Cut back faded perennials and trim climbers to keep them tidy.
» Thoroughly weeding borders, patios and driveways. Spot treat persistent weeds where appropriate.
» Regular lawn care keeps lawns looking neat and well maintained. Raise the cutting height during hot, dry weather.
» Edging and strimming help to keep borders neat. Repair worn patches if conditions are suitable and apply lawn feed if required. (Avoid lawn feed on drought stressed lawns.)
» Sweeping patios, paths and driveways, removing fallen leaves and debris leaves your garden clean and presentable
» Pressure washing patios, driveways, decking, and garden paths. Summer is the season for enjoying outdoor living spaces.
» Check fences, sheds and garden structures and make repairs where necessary. August is a perfect time for repainting these structures
» Gutter clearing to ensure water is free flowing and clear of debris
Regular visits throughout August helps to maintain the appearance of your garden and ensures your outdoor spaces remain enjoyable to the end of summer and into Autumn.
Commercial Grounds – August Priorities
August is a busy month for keeping landscapes looking professional despite the summer heat and dry conditions, whilst also preparing for the transition into Autumn.
» Regular grass cutting, edging and strimming around trees, fences, signs and kerbs to maintain a neat and professional appearance
» Weed control across borders, car parks, pathways and hard surfaces. Remove invasive weeds before they set seed.
» Hedges should be trimmed to maintain a neat appearance and shrubs should be lightly pruned after they have finished flowering.
» Pruning of shrubs and removal of damaged growth to encourage healthy development
» Deadheading seasonal bedding displays to prolong flowering and maintain a visual impact
» Watering trees, shrubs and seasonal displays during dry periods and monitoring for drought stress or heat damage
» Sweeping of paths and hard surfaces including entrances and communal spaces to clear leaves and debris improves appearances
» Inspection of trees, particularly low branches and damaged limbs
» Pressure washing hard surfaces such as paths, patios, car parks and entranceways which improves aesthetics for staff and visitors
» Clearance and site tidying; A well-kept landscape enhances customer experiences, reinforces brand image and creates a welcoming environment for visitors and staff.
Using a structured August maintenance schedule helps commercial landscapes remain attractive, safe, and compliant while preparing sites for the changing conditions of late summer and early Autumn.
